Why is the western world wealthier than the rest of the world?

Having resources at hand and controlling resources aren't necessarily the same thing. The western world controls most of the oil/diamonds etc that exists in other area's of the world through political, military, or monetary means. Regardless of whether or not it's right, the western world controls most of the infrastructure and therefor the commodities that p through the infrastructure.
