Breakthrough Bleeding and no period?

I have been on Alese for about a year now and when I first went on it I experienced some breakthrough bleeding off and on for the first 3 or 4 months. It has been quite a while since I have experienced that and then all of a sudden last week I started bleeding, which is a week before my period was suppose to start. Well the breakthrough bleeding seemed more like a regular period b/c I bled all week. I was suppose to start my period on Sunday and still nothing. Was I suppose to stop taking my pills last week when I was bleeding b/c I didn't and now this week i'm not taking any pills b/c i'm suppose to have my period but I don't. I have taken 2 pregnancy tests and both were negative. Any suggestions? Is this normal or should I call my doctor? I start my new pack of pills on Sunday but now i'm concerned my period will come early again.
