How to start a fundraiser?

Ok so im trying to start a fundraiser for the American Cancer society. I've contacted the person in charge and she told me to go to a website choc full of ideas for fundraising. My question is, once i pick out an idea, do i build a team and start the fundraiser? is it that simple?or are there are steps to be taken?
